Making Old Furniture Look New Again

The contractor came and went. He said he was tied up for about 4 to 5 weeks so I was a little bummed as I was hoping he could start sooner. As it is my house it totally torn up and I have 3 rooms full of junk in my living room and my son's bedroom.

To save money, I decided to refurbish my old bedroom furniture. It was starting to look it's age, after about 20+ years. The laminated wood was looking terrible and I decided that I would paint it and give it a new look. I have 2 night stands, a dresser and a chest of drawers. I am also going to do the mirror and the headboard too. After much trial and error, I decided on thyme green for the main color. The walls, I think I will rag in two different beige colors. Anyway, here are some photos from start to finish:

First I sanded the surface, then use two coats of primer and finished with two coats of latex satin paint. I painted some ornamental grass as the design in the beige paint that I will use on the walls. I am a little concerned about the primer as it is supposed to stick to expecially slick surfaces and I found it not to be sticking as well as I had hoped. However, after the latex coat was on, it seems to be holding up well. We will see how much wear and tear it can tolerate.

Very nice! I have a friend that did her daughter's furniture in a very nice purple color and it came out gorgeous too... I wish I had the patience for stuff like that.

I know you're looking forward to the contractor coming back, but at least you made a little progress with the furniture!
