I decided for the benefit of my sons' future wives, that my sons should learn how to cook. Both know how to make scrambled eggs and omelets. My youngest has baked cookies. When he was in 6th grade, he had to take a home economics class and because he had baked at home, he was ahead of the pack. Some of the kids mixed their ingredients up in the wrong order, didn't preheat the oven, burned the cookies and etc. My son's batch came out pretty good and tasted good too. At one time, he even thought about becoming a chef but that's where it ended.
For my oldest, since he was the least experienced, I had him start with spaghetti. He cooked up the hamburger, added the sauce from a jar, made some baked apples, a salad out of a bag, and I had him put butter and garlic on french bread. He did really well and I was able to show him safe preparation of food, which meant not mixing raw meat with raw vegetables.
My youngest son made stir-fried chicken with vegetables. I had him cut up 3 different types of veggies, make rice, the sauce and then cut up and cook the chicken. He put it all together in a wok and stir fried the concoction. It was really delicious and he enjoyed the process.
From now to the end of summer, I am going to have them each cook a meal a week. Hopefully, my college age son will use some of these skills when he moves into his apartment in the fall. My husband has been teaching him to grill too.
My youngest needs to learn what he can and cannot eat because of his sensitive digestive issues.By having him prepare his own food, I know I will feel a lot more at ease when it becomes his turn to leave the nest.

That's a great idea! I think I'm going to have to do that with my husband, he can only make eggs and kraft dinner.
what a wonderful idea! im gonna teach my sons, Noah and Kaiden to cook when they get older. It must be fun too to teach them even if they mess the kitchen up sometimes. :) Well, that's part of learning. :)
Thanks for sharing. I'm gonna do that for sure! :)
